YOR4Good Grant

We are pleased to report that Pocklington Community Trust have just been awarded a £10,000 grant from YOR4Good to replace the existing sash and casement windows in the Pocklington Community Hall with new double-glazed units….

This is a discrete project that forms part of a wider plan to repair and refurbish the community hall and the adjoining Burnby Hall to create an enlarged Community Centre for the people of Pocklington.

In the current funding environment, it is difficult to secure capital funding for large scale community projects. The Trustees of the Pocklington Community Trust, working in partnership with Pocklington Town Council have therefore adopted a phased programme of redevelopment, the pace of refurbishment governed by the availability of funding.

Priority is currently being given to the redevelopment of the Community Hall, which is already in community use. The building was constructed in 1971. To ensure the long-term usability of the community asset, a programme of renewal must be undertaken. Key projects identified for the Community Hall in order of priority:

  • Replacement of lighting with energy efficient LED lighting (completed)
  • Replacement of rotten single glazed sash and casement windows with new double-glazed units – will reduce heating costs (funding secured)
  • Replace the Community Kitchen
  • Create a new baby changing area and additional storage and refurbish the foyer
  • Replace felted flat roof which is starting to fail with a new insulated GRP roof
  • Upgraded toilet block.
  • Redecorate community hall and replace furniture
  • Install PV panels and batteries to reduce energy costs once roof work completed

The legacy of the YOR4Good grant funded project, along with other projects to refurbish and enhance the Pocklington Community Hall will be to help extend the operating life of the building a further 50 years.

The window replacement project will contribute to making the hall a safer, more welcoming, comfortable, well equipped and flexible space that will support increased usage of the revitalised community building. The reduction in heat loss resulting from the installation of the new double-glazed windows will help lower operating costs. Increased hire income from greater community usage coupled with a reduction in operating costs will enable the charity to retain more funds in general reserves to reinvest in this essential community asset.

The Trustees would like to thank YOR4Good for their generous financial support.
