Reviews and Testimonials from users of the Community Hall
On behalf of the Pocklington & District BHF, may I thank you so much for all your help and support in our hiring of Burnby Hall for our 40th Celebration lunch.
The event raised £4,480 which was amazing. This was also achieved by being able to seat the number of people we required to raise as much as possible.
Special thanks to Robert & Kate for meeting myself and some of our committee several times to finalise the arrangements and arriving early on the day to open up for us.
I personally was happy that the building was suitable for Andrew to hold his Flower Demonstration as part of our celebration lunch and for Annette from the Lilypad Cafe to prepare the tables and serve the food.
Thank you so much.

Holly at Thread and Press
” Thread and Press CIC have used the community hall space for a number of workshops for both adults and children since early 2025. We provide workshops to areas like Pocklington and rural areas across the county – providing creative opportunities that might not normally exist. The space is very important to our business as it provides an affordable hire space that caters for the budget of a not for profit organisation like ourselves. The room is very large, with a hard floor, plenty of tables and is a perfect space for any of our activities. Booking is easy and straightforward and everything has always run smoothly. Pocklington is a growing market town and there are limited central venues that we can hire for adhoc sessions and access. Some others are full to capacity or have issues with wheelchair access. Others rely on attendance by car as they are not central. Parking is also an issue in our town, and some venues make it difficult for participants to park and for me as a tutor to load/unload. Many venues are priced at a commercial charge, which can be difficult to cover when you are a not for profit/community interest company like ourselves. The community hall provides a central location, loading area, parking and is fully accessible. This is very important to us and we will be continuing to use the hall as much as possible. The hire charges are very reasonable since the Trust has been running the bookings and we will continue to use it. Without this option, we may struggle to run our workshops in the area, particularly children’s sessions which can be difficult to cover costs, due to the lower participation fee expected and the maximum capacity to suit safeguarding/risk assessments. We have found uptake to sessions in this venue to be very good and had very positive feedback from participants about access, location and facilities.
We also hope to be considered for a more permanent space in the new plans of the hall renovations in the future. This would be a fantastic asset to the town and provide even more creative opportunity. “
Sheila from the Chrysanthemum Society
” We greatly value the Pocklington community hall as it’s a large space which enables us to create our annual Pocklington Chrysanthemum Show easily. As you can see from the photos we do not just cater for Chrysanthemums, we have vegetables, handcraft, cookery and photography. This therefore means we require lots of table space and this can be conveniently arranged in the hall. This is the only hall in Pocklington that is big enough for our show.
The hall also has kitchen facilities which we use for teas and cakes during the afternoon. The hall is easy to access to the public and there is a very handy car parking which is essential as we have exhibitors from around the county. “

Bronia From the 7th Pocklington Guides and NWW Division Rangers
” Girlguiding have been using Burnby Hall all the time I have lived in Pocklington (since 1984- over 40 years).
Events we have held there include the Rainbows 10th birthday party in 1997, many Thinking Day events involving girls from all over the Division (which includes the area from Market Weighton to Stamford Bridge and Melbourne) and, every year since 1990, our annual Craft Fair in November. We also have held other fund raising events for international events, such as a table top sale.
Girlguiding receive no outside funding. All our Leaders and Commissioners (me) are volunteers – so too are all our Trainers and Advisers within the Division and County. The Craft Fair is a valuable source of income for us – and we are grateful to Burnby Hall for a wonderful facility.
Many villages have wonderful village or community halls. It is ridiculous that a town the size of Pocklington has had to rely on volunteers and fund raising to save this facility. “
Alex from The Pocklington Camera Club
” Pocklington Community Hall has been of real use to the Camera Club as a large usable space where we can set up a number of studio lighting scenarios and as a quality venue where we can host other Camera Clubs from around Yorkshire to participate in our regular inter club competitions. “
Adam at Christ Presbyterian Church
” The Community Hall has been a wonderful home for our growing church family. We gather every Sunday morning at 10am for our weekly Worship Service, and during term time, we meet again at 5pm for our interactive, all-age Sunday School. The hall’s flexibility has allowed us to host a wide range of other events as well, including carol services, craft events, kids’ clubs, church lunches, and more. Also, with the hall only being a short walk from the centre of Pocklington we’ve been able to welcome people of all ages and stages of life to take part in our activities. The Community Hall has been a huge help in enabling our church to show love and support to the people of Pocklington and to share the good news of Jesus. “
Pocklington & District Arts Society
” The Pocklington and District Arts Society began life at Burnby Hall, way back in July 1967 so naturally we have an interest in the success of the Burnby Hall Project and especially with the development of the Community Hall. We share a desire for community engagement with the Pocklington Community Trust and have several reasons for wishing to continue and develop our relationship with the Community Hall. Firstly, it is the only hall in Pocklington of a suitable size to accommodate an audience of about 100 people. Also, it has the necessary equipment and sightlines for a Speaker and PowerPoint projection to be clearly seen and heard as well as being accessible for people with mobility issues. Lastly, it is central, allowing easy access to members and visitors and, for those who live out of town, both proximity to the main bus stop and adequate parking provision. “
Elaine from Fitmums
” Fitmums and Friends uses Burnby Hall once a month for a Strength and Conditioning Session. We have found it an ideal facility. It is very affordable. The booking system is very efficient and, most importantly has space within our community for our group to meet. “
